TRACK RACING: POINTS RACE
The Points Race is a mass-start endurance event where points are awarded to the top finishers at intermediate sprints, held every 10 laps. Bonus points are awarded to riders who gain a lap on the main bunch.
The race is a complex tactical event as riders must decide when to sprint for points and when to work on gaining a lap. The rider with the most points at the end wins. It has now largely been replaced by the Omnium at the Olympic Games.
