TRACK RACING: KEIRIN

Keirin originates from Japan. A group of 6-8 riders follow a motorized pacer (a derny or a motorbike) that gradually increases speed over several laps. The pacer leaves the track with 2-2.5 laps to go, at which point the riders sprint to the finish.

It is a chaotic, high-speed, and often physical event filled with tactical positioning and explosive sprint speed. It has been an Olympic event since 2000.
