TRACK RACING: INDIVIDUAL PURSUIT

In Individual Pursuit, two riders start on opposite sides of the velodrome and race against each other over a set distance (4 km for men, 3 km for women at the Olympics). The winner is either the rider who catches their opponent, or the rider who completes the distance in the fastest time.

It is a test of sustained power output and pacing ability, requiring the rider to maintain a very precise, even effort throughout the race.
