SUMMER CYCLING CLOTHING

In summer, cycling clothing should be lightweight, breathable, and provide sun protection. The primary goal is to keep the body cool by wicking sweat away quickly and allowing heat to dissipate.

Key Items for Summer Cycling

  • Short-sleeve or sleeveless jersey: Lightweight, breathable fabrics that wick moisture effectively.
  • Cycling shorts or bib shorts: shorts with a chamois pad. Light fabrics with good stretch.
  • Lightweight cycling gloves: Half-finger gloves protect the palms and provide grip.
  • Cycling cap: A lightweight cap under the helmet protects the forehead from sunburn.
  • Sunglasses: Protect the eyes from UV rays, glare, insects, and dust.
  • Sunscreen: Apply to all exposed skin, especially the neck, forearms, and lower legs.

Light Jacket

Even in summer, it is advisable to carry a very lightweight windbreaker or rain cape, especially on mountain routes. Temperatures can drop significantly at higher elevations and sudden summer storms can occur.

Hydration

In hot weather, fluid intake is more critical than usual. Carry sufficient water and drink before you get thirsty. Electrolyte drinks can help replace the salt lost through sweating on long rides.
