SINGLE SPEED BICYCLE
A single speed bicycle is a bicycle with a single gearratio, or rather, a gearless bicycle. It is suitable for urban, short-term, and short-distance use. Unlike fixie bicycles, these require both front and rearbrakes.
Difference from Fixie
Single speed bicycles are often confused with fixie bicycles. Fixie bicycles are also gearless, but because their freewheels (cogs) are fixed, the pedals do not stop while the bike is moving. Rather, in a fixie bicycle, when the pedals turn backwards, the rear wheel also turns backwards. In single speeds, however, the freewheel is free; while the pedals turn backwards freely, the wheel continues its forward rotation.
