PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

Regular periodic maintenance of the bicycle is important for riding safety and the efficiency of the bicycle and its components. A bicycle with timely maintenance can safely undertake long tours. With a poorly maintained bicycle, encountering a hard-to-fix breakdown at an inconvenient time is almost inevitable.

For example, simple issues like flat tires, minor brake problems, and chain lubrication can cause unpleasant experiences. Furthermore, insufficient maintenance such as brake cable and housing issues, gearing system problems, or not noticing a frame crack in time can cause a major tour to be cut short.

See the full periodic maintenance table for a detailed schedule of all maintenance tasks and their recommended intervals (initial service, daily, monthly, and annual).

  • Initial service is performed after 15-20 days, 250-300 km, or 8-10 rides on a new bicycle.
  • Daily maintenance involves checks that should be performed before every ride.
  • Monthly maintenance encompasses tasks to be done every 1,000 km or every few months (seasonal).
  • Annual maintenance involves tasks that need to be performed at least once a year.
