HOUR RECORD
The Hour Record is one of the most prestigious achievements in cycling: the greatest distance covered by a single cyclist in one hour while riding alone on a bicycle on an indoor track (velodrome). There is no pace-setter; the rider races against the clock.
The record has a long and storied history stretching back to 1876. It has been broken by some of the greatest cyclists of all time, including Fausto Coppi, Eddy Merckx, Francesco Moser, Chris Boardman, and more recently Filippo Ganna.
Equipment Regulations
The UCI has different regulations for the Hour Record. The "UCI Hour Record" uses equipment standards similar to a standard road time trial position (unified position standards, based on Eddy Merckx's 1972 guidelines). Attempts with highly aerodynamic "Superman" positions are classified separately.
Current Records
The current UCI Hour Record stands above 55 km, a distance that was once considered nearly impossible. The record continues to attract elite cyclists as the ultimate individual test of sustained power output and aerodynamics.
