HANDLEBAR ADJUSTMENTS
Handlebar adjustments are important for the hands, arms, and back muscles to be comfortable, pain-free, and without numbness during hours spent on the bicycle. Handlebar adjustments in Bisiklopedi are given under the heading of grip adjustments. The adjustments of brake and gear levers are also in the same category.
The basic adjustment for the handlebars on a bicycle is the wrist angle. When the wrist angle is incorrect, carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist pain can occur.
Grip Adjustments
Correct grip angle: The arm bone and the forearm continue at the wrist without making an angle. The wrist is not bent.
For the correct position, the grip is tilted slightly downward (5-10 degrees). This provides the correct wrist angle for most cyclists. Women cyclists and those with small wrists generally prefer a slightly more downward angle.
Brake and Gear Lever Adjustments
Brake levers are the extension of the grips. Therefore, they are adjusted according to the same principle: the arm bone and the lever continue in the same line at the wrist.
The reach of the brake levers should be set so that the index and middle finger can comfortably close around the lever.
