FANCY WOMEN’S BIKE RIDE

Today, a cycling phenomenonunique to Turkiye, theFancy Women’s Bike Ride was held for the first time in 2013 in Izmir within the framework of the "World Car-Free Cities Day" event. 300 women, meeting through a Facebook event created by Sema Gür, pedaled from Konak to Alsancak and made a press statement on the theme "let there be the smell of perfume instead of exhaust in cities."

The main goal of the Fancy Women’s Bike Ride, which is a women's event, is for more women to ride bicycles. In this respect, it can be seen as a feminist action. However, men are also among the guests of the ride on the condition that they are dressed elegantly and are not in the foreground.

The ride, which brings together an increasing number of participants every year, was held in 28 cities in 2016. The goal for the next event (2017) was 41 cities. The fancy women exceeded this goal and held events in 50 cities in 2017. At this point reached, it now has the distinction of being Turkiye’s largest, simultaneous, and civil cycling event.

In 2018, the event, held in 70 cities with participation from Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, grew its target to 115 cities in 2019. In 2020, it took place with individual events due to the pandemic.

In 2021, the Fancy Women’s Bike Ride was held in 25 countries and 150 cities.
