DAILY MAINTENANCE
Daily maintenance (or pre-ride checks) are the quick checks that should be performed before every ride to ensure the bicycle is safe and ready to ride. These checks take only a couple of minutes but can prevent problems on the road.
Pre-Ride Checklist (ABC Quick Check)
- A - Air: Check tire pressure. Inflate to the recommended pressure printed on the tire sidewall. Also check for any obvious cuts, embedded objects, or damage to the tires.
- B - Brakes: Squeeze both brake levers. They should engage firmly before the lever reaches the handlebars. Check that brake pads are not worn out and are properly aligned with the rim or rotor.
- C - Chain: Check that the chain is clean and adequately lubricated. A dry, rusty chain squeaks and wears quickly.
- Quick Releases / Axle bolts: Ensure the wheel quick releases (or axle bolts) are securely tightened and the wheels are properly seated in the dropouts.
- Lights: If riding in low-light conditions, check that front and rear lights are charged and functioning.
