CRITICAL MASS
Critical Mass is a cycling event held on the last Friday of every month in cities around the world. It is not organized by any single organization; it is a spontaneous, leaderless cycling gathering.
The event is based on the principle of "safety in numbers": when a large group of cyclists ride together, they take over road space and become highly visible, promoting cycling as a legitimate form of transport.
Critical Mass began in San Francisco in September 1992. Today it is held in hundreds of cities worldwide, including many in Turkey such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.
The event is generally peaceful in nature and its purpose is to demonstrate the right of cyclists to use city streets. It is not a race or a protest; it is a celebration of cycling.
