BACKPACK
A backpack is one of the most common ways to carry light loads while cycling. However, for long-distance touring, carrying weight on your back is generally not recommended compared to carrying it on the bicycle (in panniers).
Advantages of a Backpack
- Easy to carry off the bike.
- Quick access to contents.
- No need to modify the bicycle.
- Ideal for short commutes and mountain biking where a rack is not suitable.
Disadvantages of a Backpack
- Carrying weight on your back raises your center of gravity and can affect bike handling.
- Sweating on the back is uncomfortable, especially in hot weather, even with ventilated designs.
- Can cause back and shoulder pain on long journeys.
Hydration Packs
A hydration pack is a specialized backpack with a bladder and drinking tube, allowing the rider to drink without stopping. It is very popular for mountain biking and cycling events.
